Exclusive: Trump appointee brags about being “comrades” with government unions
Remember Louis DeJoy? This is him now...
One of president Donald Trump’s appointees praised public sector unions as his “comrades” in a recent recording, obtained exclusively by this site.
Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, who was appointed by Trump, and who still serves in the position, gained notoriety as Democrats spread “conspiracy theories” about how Trump used mail-in ballots during the coronavirus pandemic to steal the election. One Democratic congressman even chained himself to a mailbox.
During last month’s Mailers Technical Advisory Committee (MTAC) Association meeting, DeJoy bragged about how many unionized government employees the Postal Service has hired on his watch — and asked why his “comrades” aren’t celebrating him more.
LISTEN to DeJoy yourself here:
“We are” going for a “unionized operation…100 percent unionized,” DeJoy said on the call. “I was actually with our supervisors union yesterday, and I said ‘comrades, how come you’re not celebrating me?’” DeJoy did not respond to a request for comment.
Republicans fiercely defended DeJoy when Democrats peddled conspiracy theories about his work in government. Now, many have turned on him. Grover Norquist, the president of Americans for Tax Reform, told me that “DeJoy’s ‘Delivering for America’ plan is a complete failure on its own terms. DeJoy took office promising to get the Postal Service’s financial house in order. Instead the Postal Service will lose more money this year than it did the year before.”
“Now we know why,” Norquist said. “DeJoy would rather swell the ranks of his comrades in the union than protect taxpayers from further bailouts.”
