EXCLUSIVE: Top GOP House Candidate Rolls Out Massive Fundraising Numbers
Derrick Anderson has already raised almost a million dollars in one of the most contested House races in America
One of the GOP’s top House candidates raised boatloads of money this past quarter, we’re exclusively reporting here.
Derrick Anderson, a Special Forces Green Beret who’s running in one of the top flip opportunities the Republican Party has, raised over $420,000 in the first quarter of 2024–putting his total this cycle to date at just under $1,000,000.
Importantly, Anderson’s campaign also has over $600,000 cash on hand, which will be crucial as he heads into the home stretch of his primary, where he’s facing a Matt Gaetz-backed opponent, Cameron Hamilton, who is likely to have raised vastly less this past quarter.
Anderson, on the other hand, is backed by a slew of elected officials in Virginia, like Congresswoman Jen Kiggans and a wide range of other local officials, including every GOP member of the Stafford County Board of Supervisors; he also has some powerful national allies, like Speaker Mike Johnson and his Congressional Leadership Fund, both of which are backing him.
Hamilton recently found himself in hot water after taking almost every possible position on providing assistance to Israel. He opposed any further aid to Israel, because he doesn’t “know that we should be sending more and more money overseas right now,” before backtracking to Jewish Insider, saying that he supports a standalone aid package as our greatest ally in the Middle East fights to vanquish Hamas.
Anderson, meanwhile, told the outlet that he not only has our ally’s back, but trained directly with them firsthand. “Having trained with the Israeli Defense Forces in the Hamas tunnels, I know that Israel constantly faces the threat of being wiped off the map,” he said. “We need to have our allies’ back against these terrorist butchers.”
Ultimately, Anderson is likely to face Eugene Vindman, who is riding the coattails of his more famous brother, Alex Vindman, who blew the whistle on Donald Trump’s infamous “perfect” phone call with Ukraine, that led to his first impeachment. With that celebrity comes a price–namely an almost-total absence of donations from anyone who can actually vote for Vindman.
Hilariously, only four of Vindman’s donations from the most recent fundraising quarter came from people whose addresses are in Virginia’s 7th District–and he racked up more donations from California, New York, and Florida, than from all of Virginia combined.
When the others announce their hauls, we’ll have an even better picture of how things are going. Fortunately, that’s going to happen any day now.
