EXCLUSIVE: Congressman Jamie Raskin Peddled Clarence Thomas Conspiracies, Went on Sexist Tirade Against ACB at Off the Record Banquet
Multiple students in the room confirmed that one of America's top election deniers levied sexist attacks against ACB, debunked conspiracies at Clarence Thomas, and false criticisms of FedSoc
Congressman Jamie Raskin–one of America’s most prominent election deniers–took a trip up to Pennsylvania to ostensibly address law students about “constitutional patriotism,” but instead took a massive detour and went on a conspiratorial rant about some of his favorite targets: Supreme Court Justices Clarence Thomas and Amy Coney Barrett and the Federalist Society.
Multiple Penn students in the room confirmed to me that Raskin compared ACB to The Handmaid’s Tale’s Miss Waterford. Because I am not a #Resist Twitter account, I had to look up what that means. Waterford is, per various Reddit threads I went on, a traitor to her gender and a fervent supporter of the patriarchy in the show. Raskin’s comparison is sexist, to be sure, but not even original. Back during ACB’s confirmation hearing, liberal activists swarmed DC with outfits from The Handmaid’s Tale.
Normally, Penn’s annual Law Review Banquet is nothing to write home about–and keynote speakers are normally directly related to the career goals of students at a corporate law-focused school. Last year, for example, the keynote speaker was Leo Strine, the former Chief Justice of the Delaware Supreme Court–and a Penn Law School alum.
Raskin, by contrast, had the misfortune of graduating twice from the University of Chicago of New England, Harvard–where it is legitimately harder to get Bs than As due to outrageous grade inflation. He also failed to abide by the terms he agreed to, one Law Review board member told me. In advance of Raskin’s keynote, the Law Review “agreed with his people that the topic would be ‘constitutional patriotism’ and that it would be politically neutral,” I’m told.
Instead, he went off the rails. Beyond attacking ACB, Raskin also referenced the debunked non-controversy about Clarence Thomas enjoying fishing trips in Alaska, insanely and incorrectly calling this a bribe. One Penn student told me it was “not at all [responsible]” for the ranking member of the Oversight Committee to throw these accusations
Finally, Raskin also attacked the Federalist Society, dubbing it a “shadow organization” per one attendee, which is particularly ironic since that school’s FedSoc president noted to me that “our chapter hosted an event with the American Constitution Society this year [its liberal counterpart], which shows our goodwill on campus, about whether Trump is barred from being president again under Section Three of 14th Amendment.” Sounds super “shadow[-y]” to me!
The FedSoc president noted that Raskin sounded like Sheldon Whitehouse, one of the Senate’s top conspiracy theorists. Raskin even further undermined democracy by warning Law Review members that they can no longer count on the Supreme Court to “save you.” His talk was generally rife with criticisms of the Supreme Court supposedly being dominated by religious dogma and not by the law–standard left-wing fever dream stuff, which would nevertheless normally be out of place at a banquet like this.
How did the future lawyers of America react to Raskin? One attendee described it as a “zoo” filled with laughter.
With so much attention being paid to Hamas training camps on colleges across America, graduate schools have flown under the radar–and don’t get me wrong, attention should be paid to them; look at these photos and videos from what’s happening at Penn right now that I was sent.
However, it’s great to see that the diploma mills of American graduate school are as nutty as their undergrad counterparts.
Thank you for confirming what many of us have long suspected about the nutty Congressman from Maryland's formerly terrific 8th District. I miss Constance Morrella. She fit the district. Raskin is a delusional loon.
