EXCLUSIVE: Antonio Brown Wants to Be Donald Trump's Running Mate
New England Patriots legend wants to be Trump's #2
As we barrel towards a rematch between Donald Trump and Joe Biden this November, it’s become something of a parlor game to guess who Trump will pick as his running mate: will he be conventional and pick someone like Senator Tim Scott? Or will he break the mold and pick someone like Vivek Ramaswamy?
With former Vice President Mike Pence ruling out endorsing his former boss, we can probably take his name off the list for the millionth time. But, one possible contender just told me that he is very interested: former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown.
In recent weeks, Brown–a New England Patriots legend–has been both promoting his new venture, CTESPN, and tweeting enough about politics that he claims that Biden blocked him on Twitter. But one article caught my eye tonight: “Antonio Brown appears to be campaigning to be Donald Trump’s running mate,” published by Peter Dewey in Ahn Fire Digital.
As Dewey notes:
Brown posted a photoshopped picture of him standing next to Trump and tagged the former president…
It’s highly unlikely that Trump would choose Brown as his running mate, but the former receiver has been extremely active on social media in his support for Trump.
Brown took a shot at President Joe Biden on Sunday after it was shared that Trump won a golf event recently. It seems like Brown was questioning Biden’s physical capability as the leader of the United States.
The seven-time Pro Bowler also shared a message from rapper Kodak Black, who believes that Trump should be in office longer than the four-year term that each president is given.
He also shared an image of a campaign slogan saying, “Put that s— on!” featuring his nickname (A.B.) and Trump’s name.
There seems to be no doubt that Brown is in support of Trump ahead of this year’s election, and it’ll be interesting to see if there are other athletes who end up agreeing with the former star receiver.
So, I decided to ask the man himself for comment. I knew that he had open DMs because earlier today, he posted a wildly sexually explicit message request he received.
Shooters shoot, as they say. So I asked “if you would say [yes] to Donald Trump if he asked you to be his running mate? Would make 2024 quite interesting…”
Less than two hours later, he responded: “Yes,” adding “#CTESPN,” which appears to be his new podcast platform.
While AB is unlikely to get the VP nod, the NFL takeover of American politics has been fascinating to watch in recent weeks. New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers, of course, has been bandied about as a possible running mate for Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as well.
Of course I followed up with AB about his thoughts on a possible AB-Aaron Rodgers vice presidential debate. Will do a post on that if I hear back…
