EXCLUSIVE: GOP Candidate Sounds Off On Trump: “Trump Was Nancy’s Bitch the Whole Time and Fauci’s Lover”
GOP House candidate Joe Babits provides a masterclass in how not to win friends or influence people
A New Jersey-born, Washington D.C.-educated Republican who is now running for Congress in an open seat in Florida slammed former President Donald Trump as “Nancy [Pelosi’s] bitch” and “[Anthony] Fauci’s lover” in an interview earlier this year, we can exclusively report.
Joe Babits, who is running in the now-open 8th District of Florida, repeatedly attacked the former president in a March interview with the Florida Voice news channel, according to a video reviewed by this outlet. The story that followed Florida Voice’s interview with Babits makes no mention of almost anything that follows below.
At the time, Babits was primarying Rep. Bill Posey (R., Fla), the Trump-endorsed incumbent, who announced his surprise retirement the following month. During the 30-minute interview with Florida Voice, Babits lashed out at Trump for endorsing Posey, whom he referred to as the “king of the swamp creatures.” Trump, Babits said, “says he’s for draining the swamp,” but “he is not really for draining the swamp, which has always been his problem.”
Babits’s criticisms of Trump go well beyond his anger that Trump endorsed someone else. Trump, he said, is “more about applause” than actually getting things done. He also claimed that “quite honestly, if you look at where our country was after Obama and after Trump, we’re worse off today from a conservative point of view.”
Babits, who is now a Florida man, also said that he probably would have backed Gov. Ron DeSantis over Trump, had DeSantis not dropped out of the race. Even without his additional attacks on Trump, who he also called “a bit of a pansy,” that may alone be enough to eliminate any chance of a Trump endorsement. Look no further than how Trump’s orbit has made Rep. Bob Good (R., Va.) one of its top public enemies in no small part because of Good’s support for DeSantis.
Babits always had an uphill battle to win the primary here, but he sounded hell-bent on alienating anyone who could possibly help him. He backed the ouster of former Speaker Kevin McCarthy, and said he also wants new Speaker Mike Johnson gone.
“Once I had enough votes for the replacement, then I would remove [McCarthy],” he said. “And I would, right now, I’m telling you, I would support removing Speaker Johnson,” who is “even worse” than McCarthy, Babits said, adding that it is “shameful” that Johnson did not “codify Trump’s executive orders” on illegal immigration.
Unsurprisingly for a candidate who is not a fan of the former Republican president or the current or former Republican House speakers, he has zero endorsements of note. “None,” he said, when asked if he had any noteworthy backers. As for fundraising? He’s “raised a little shy of a thousand dollars, mostly from my friends. We have not been having real success in fundraising.”
