EXCLUSIVE: Behind the Scenes of a Shoddy Hit Piece
If it walks like a Dem hit piece, if it talks like a Dem hit pieces, and if it iMessages like a Dem hit piece...it's probably a Dem hit piece you can change the narrative on
It’s no secret that politics is filled with shenanigans; recently, one of the dumber hit pieces of the cycle took place in one of the most competitive elections in America.
In Pennsylvania’s 8th District, Rep. Matt Cartwright (D., Pa.), a private plane-flying, ethically challenged, multimillionaire longtime congressman is facing his most highly-touted opponent in years in Rob Bresnahan, a local businessman; and Raw Story, the Left’s version of the Drudge Report, is resorting to laughable lengths to stop Bresnahan’s campaign from taking off shortly after he won his primary.
In an email exchange first published here, a purported investigative reporter from the blog reached out to Bresnahan’s campaign, attacking a local business based in the district.
Bresnahan’s campaign responded fairly masterfully to Raw Story’s obvious attempt at propagandizing for Cartwright. It sent me the text messages that it responded to Alexandria Jacobson with, cleverly taking the conversation over to an iPhone, which is of course itself tied directly to China.
Campaign iMessage to Raw Story
Hey Alexandria -
This is Derek Rockey with the Bresnahan campaign. I got your phone number from the signature of your Raw Story email address and figured it would be easier to text you directly instead of email.
What exactly is Raw Story alleging was made in China?
Also, I noticed that this phone number, which was listed in the email signature of Raw Story-issued email address uses iMessage, a technology used by iPhones manufactured in China.
Why did Raw Story choose to use iPhone technology made in China?
Is Raw Story aware that this merchandise was made in China?
Why not use American-made merchandise if you're going to try writing hit pieces stories like these?
Does Raw Story have any concerns about the human rights conditions in Chinese factories where iPhones like these are made? Please explain.
What are Raw Story's views on outsourcing manufacturing jobs to China? Please explain.
Will Raw Story continue to use and communicate on iPhones made in China? Please explain.
Thanks, and please let me know about what exactly you're alleging.
Raw Story iMessage Response:
Thanks for getting in touch, Derek.
Mr. Bresnahan said in his campaign launch video, "Here in northeastern Pennsylvania, there used to be hundreds of businesses like ours that made things until DC politicians turned off the lights on American manufacturing and sent those jobs to China."
So, I'm wondering if Mr. Bresnahan could please explain the decision to have campaign merchandise made in China given these comments. Any further clarification he could provide on his stance on outsourcing manufacturing jobs would be most appreciated.
Please let me know if you'd be available to discuss today. Thank you! Alexandria
Campaign iMessage Response:
You've yet to articulate what exactly you're referring to as it relates to campaign merchandise. Can you please do so?
Raw Story iMessage Response:
Yes, as I mentioned in the email, I'm referring to this jacket that Mr. Bresnahan is wearing. Thanks!
Campaign iMessage Response:
Congressman Cartwright and his far-left allies are beyond desperate if they're seriously trying to use a jacket purchased from a Scranton-based small business that has been serving our community for over 40 years to distract from Congressman Cartwright repeatedly voting to send blue-collar American jobs overseas to Communist China. This is a desperately transparent attempt to inoculate Congressman Cartwright for his repeated pro-China votes at the expense of a local small business in his district, and it's pathetic.
Enjoy your weekend, and Happy Flag Day
.
Raw Story iMessage Response:
Thanks for the response. Can you please confirm which Scranton small business made the jackets?
Campaign Team iMessage Response:
You seem like a top-notch investigative reporter. I am sure you can figure that out. Again, have a nice weekend.
Screenshots of the exchange are below. Bresnahan’s campaign flagged for me the questions that would actually be impactful if Raw Story wanted to do its job.
Does Matt Cartwright condemn Raw Story attacking Design Print, Inc., a local small business that has been serving the Scranton community for over 40 years?
Does Cartwright think the policies of the Biden administration – whose agenda Cartwright has voted for 100% of the time – make it more difficult for small businesses in his district like Design Print Inc. to stay afloat?
Does he regret his votes to sell out American workers to the Chinese?
